You must be able to point to the exact sentence that supports your answer
Words like 'only', 'always', 'never', 'all', 'every' in options are usually traps
The passage says one thing. The correct answer says the same thing in different words. Train your eye to spot this. Rule 5 — Wrong options use real words from the passage: Trap options copy keywords from the passage but change the meaning slightly. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE 3-STEP ATTACK METHOD
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
STEP 1 — READ THE QUESTIONS FIRST (30 seconds): Scan all questions. Underline the keyword in each question. Example keywords: 'reason', 'purpose', 'when', 'who', 'how many'.
STEP 2 — READ THE PASSAGE WITH A PURPOSE (2 minutes): Read actively. When you see a keyword from your questions, stop and mark that line.
STEP 3 — MATCH AND ELIMINATE (1.5 minutes per question): Go to the marked line. Read it carefully. Find the option that says the same thing in different words. Eliminate options that use absolute words incorrectly or add information not in the passage.

— HOW SSC ASKS IT ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Pattern 1 — Direct Fact: 'According to the passage, which country has the largest rainforest?' Answer is one line in passage. Pattern 2 — Negative Question: 'Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?' — Read all options. Find the three that ARE mentioned. The leftover one is the answer. Pattern 3 — Reason/Cause Question: 'Why did the author say X?' — Find the sentence with X, then read the sentence before or after it for the reason. Pattern 4 — Title/Main Idea: 'What is the best title for this passage?' — This is the only slightly inferential question in Factual RC. The title must cover the WHOLE passage, not just one paragraph. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
If an option contains 'only', 'all', 'never', 'always', 'every', 'completely' — be 90% suspicious. Passages rarely make such extreme statements. These are almost always wrong options
In a 4-option question, usually 1 option is completely out of scope, 1 option uses passage words but twists meaning, 1 option is partially correct, and 1 option is fully correct. Eliminate the out-of-scope option first. This makes your job 33% easier instantly. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Passage Line: 'The cheetah is the fastest land animal, capable of reaching speeds up to 120 km/h. However, it can only maintain this speed for short distances of about 500 metres.' Question: According to the passage, what is the limitation of the cheetah's speed? (A) It cannot run faster than 100 km/h (B) It can only maintain top speed for a short distance (C) It is not the fastest animal in the world (D) It always runs at 120 km/h STEP 1 — Keyword in question: 'limitation' STEP 2 — Find in passage: 'However, it can only maintain this speed for short distances of about 500 metres' — this line talks about the limitation. STEP 3 — Match with options: - Option A: Passage says 120 km/h, not 100. WRONG. - Option B: Matches the passage perfectly — short distance = limitation.
CORRECT. - Option C: Passage says it IS the fastest land animal. WRONG. - Option D: Uses passage word '120 km/h' but says 'always' — passage says it CANNOT maintain it always. TRAP — WRONG. ANSWER: B ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WORKED EXAMPLE 2 — NEGATIVE QUESTION ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Passage: 'Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts of plant cells.
It requires sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce glucose and oxygen. This process is essential for life on Earth.' Question: Which of the following is NOT required for photosynthesis according to the passage? (A) Sunlight (B) Water (C) Nitrogen (D) Carbon dioxide STEP 1 — This is a NOT question. Find what IS mentioned. STEP 2 — Passage mentions: sunlight (A — mentioned), water (B — mentioned), carbon dioxide (D — mentioned). STEP 3 — Nitrogen is NOT mentioned anywhere in the passage. ANSWER: C (Nitrogen) NOTE: Do not use your science knowledge here.
Even if you know nitrogen matters for plants, the passage does not say it. Stick to the passage. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ NUMBER ONE
— THE KNOWLEDGE TRAP ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ The biggest mistake students make: They use their own general knowledge to answer. The passage says 'tigers are found in Asia'. The option says 'tigers are found in India, Bangladesh, and Russia' — this feels correct because you know it.
But the passage did not say that. This is WRONG in Factual RC. Always ask: 'Did the passage say this — exactly?' If yes, select it.
If no, reject it, even if it is true in real life.
