SHORTCUT FORMULA 1 — THE OPPOSITE TRAP RULE:
If one option looks like the LITERAL meaning of the words, eliminate it immediately. SSC setters put the literal meaning as a trap option in almost every question.
Formula: Literal meaning option = WRONG answer (99% of the time)
SHORTCUT FORMULA 2 — THE EMOTION/ACTION FILTER:
Step 1 — Read the sentence around the idiom.
Step 2 — Ask: Is the situation positive, negative, or neutral?
Step 3 — Eliminate options that carry the wrong emotion.
Formula: Sentence tone matches correct option tone.
SHORTCUT FORMULA 3 — THE BODY PART GROUPING METHOD:
Group idioms by theme while studying.
Hand idioms = usually about control or help (upper hand, lend a hand)
Eye idioms = usually about attention or awareness (keep an eye, turn a blind eye)
Foot idioms = usually about making mistakes or starting (put your foot in your mouth, get off on the right foot)
