#1: Students confuse who elects whom. Remember: President elected by Electoral College (MPs + MLAs), Vice President elected by Parliament members only, Governor appointed by President (not elected).
EMERGENCY POWERS: President can declare three emergencies - National Emergency (war/external aggression), State Emergency (constitutional breakdown), Financial Emergency (credit threat). During National Emergency, President can extend Parliament term and suspend Fundamental Rights.
IMPEACHMENT PROCESS: President can be impeached for violation of Constitution.
Process starts in either House with 1/4 members, passed by 2/3 majority, then other House investigates and removes with 2/3 majority.
ORDINANCE POWER: President can issue ordinances when Parliament not in session. Valid for 6 weeks after Parliament reassembles. Governor has similar power at state level.
SUCCESSION TRICK: Remember "VCJ" - Vice President, Chief Justice, Senior-most judge.
This is succession order if President's office becomes vacant.
KEY CONSTITUTIONAL ARTICLES: Article 52 (President), Article 63 (Vice President), Article 153 (Governor), Article 356 (President's Rule), Article 352 (National Emergency). These articles are frequently tested in direct questions.
