SHORTCUT 1 — THE POSITIVE/NEGATIVE TEST:

Step 1: Decide if the given word is POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, or NEUTRAL in meaning.

Step 2: For SYNONYM — the answer must carry the SAME tone.

Step 3: For ANTONYM — the answer must carry the OPPOSITE tone.

This alone eliminates 2 wrong options immediately.

SHORTCUT 2 — ROOT WORD ATTACK:

Break the word into PREFIX + ROOT + SUFFIX.

Example: BENEVOLENT = BENE (good) + VOLENT (wishing)
Meaning = Wishing good for others = Kind
Synonym = Compassionate, Generous
Antonym = Malevolent, Cruel

SHORTCUT 3 — ELIMINATION BY INTENSITY:

SSC often gives options that are close but differ in intensity.

Angry → Annoyed (mild) → Furious (extreme)

If the given word is EXTREME in tone, pick the most intense synonym.

If MILD, pick the softer option.
